Cable Specification Instrument cable
specification is the laid down standard of cable features that guide producers
and suppliers in their cable manufacture and trade. It is the guideline of instrumentation and
control of cables. It declares that all
instrumentation cables which are pre-fabricated cables, compensating cables,
twisted and shielded multi-paired cables, and other instrumental cables should
be of the flame retardant and low smoke types. A specification or standard guide is a good platform form which all cables are judged for their compatibility to its connectivity systems. It also standardized cables that are produced by different manufacturers so that they are uniform in their utility. This means that every machine, gadget or equipment that uses a particular cable type that has followed instrument cable specification will be properly and comfortably used in those equipments. Manufacturers of the machinery, gadgets and equipment can then produce uniform products that are usable with these standardized cables. |
The
specification also gives a guideline on instrument philosophies and overall
understanding of the specification, the various documents that are related to
cabling and automation system as well as all other miscellaneous documents that
are associated with instrument cabling.
The specification also gives a guideline instrument calculation that is
to be used in accordance with manufacture of instrument cables as well as
instrument datasheets to be utilized.
The instrument cable specification is quite thorough in its specification because it includes guidelines on instrument layout and drawings that are incorporated in the CCR/EER systems. The instrument drawings are clearly spelt out and indicated in the specification. Instrumental materials to be used in cabling are also clearly indicated in the guidelines and include earthing devices, cable glands, installation support devices and cable accessories. The specification also mentions instrument schedules and how to follow index and junction box schedules as well as hazardous area equipment schedules.
